About UMRC
The UnitedMethodistReliefCenter makes long-lasting changes in peoples’ lives by repairing and rehabilitating substandard housing and providing new housing for very low income families. Working to relieve the chronic housing problems of the rural poor in South Carolina, UMRC provides home improvements ranging from installing wheelchair ramps to moving entire houses.
These homes often contain sagging floors and leaking roofs, and some even lack indoor sanitary facilities. UMRC offers hope for a healthy and safe shelter - one of the most basic of human needs. As a faith-based organization, we emphasize the process of the work as much as the results. Our organization seeks to renew hope and ease depression in the families we serve. We find that by bringing volunteers together with people who need their help, we can revitalize the faith of everyone involved.
