I remember, many years ago now, that I wanted to volunteer on a housing project, but I was worried that I did not know enough about construction to be of any help. Well, a dear friend told me that the most important tool needed to help someone was a caring heart. If your heart is right, you can do anything. Alternately, if you do not care about those less fortunate, even if you are a skilled artisan, they will never get the help they need. I believe this with all my heart, and I get to see it lived out daily in UMRC volunteers. The most important work we do on a job site is done with smiles, hearts, and can-do attitudes. That does not mean you will not get the chance to use a hammer, drill, or saw. There will be plenty of that, but those tools are no more important than the ones mentioned above. All work done for someone other than ourselves is good work. Can you see yourself helping someone in need? Come be a part of this good work! It will give your heart a workout!
